<p>What Is Kidsweet?</p><p>Kidsweet™ is a blend of four different plant-based natural sweeteners. The unique blend of sweeteners makes it as tasty as sugar and our precise selection of high-quality ingredients and very specific extracts means it does not have a strong aftertaste like so many other sweeteners on the market. Kidsweet is made with non-GMO ingredients and does not contain anything artificial.</p><p>Who is Kidsweet for?</p><p>While we started out looking for a solution for kids to have sweets without all the sugar, Kidsweet benefits anybody who wants to or needs to reduce the sugar in their diet. For those on a low-carb/ketogenic diet, for weight loss, depression, diabetes management, or other reasons, you can benefit from Kidsweet. People trying to lose weight in any way can benefit from Kidsweet because it’s a very-low-calorie sweetener. Because Kidsweet has such a satisfying sweetness, you can stick to your diet plan and still indulge your sweet tooth. Deprivation diets don’t work well for most people – eat well AND be happy!</p><p>What are the benefits of using Kidsweet?</p><p>Most importantly, it helps you cut back on sugar. From cancer to diabetes to obesity, sugar is a major problem in our society today. At the turn of the previous century the average American ate about five pounds of sugar a year. Today it’s over two hundred pounds! ? Because of FDA restrictions, we can only say that the xylitol in Kidsweet “may reduce the risk of dental caries” (we can’t even say “cavities”) and we also have to say that “frequent between meal consumption of foods high in sugars and starches can promote tooth decay.” We trust that you, gentle reader, already knew this and might want to go read about some of the health benefits of xylitol on Wikipedia (which does not sell a food product!).</p><p>How do I use Kidsweet?</p><p>Generally, use half as much Kidsweet as you would sugar in a recipe. It can be easily mixed into beverages, sprinkled on foods, used in baking, or dissolved in prepared foods (e.g. whipped cream). The only time you should not substitute Kidsweet for sugar is when making hard candies or any other food where sugar is a structural component (e.g. angel food cake).</p><p>Tell me about the ingredients in Kidsweet.</p><p>Erythritol is a type of sweetener (known as a sugar-alcohol) that is found naturally in watermelon. Our suppliers use more modern methods to create erythritol than extracting it from watermelons (non-GMO, made in the USA), but if you’ve had watermelon, you’ve had erythritol. People have been eating watermelons, and thus erythritol since at least the time of Ancient Egypt.</p><p>Xylitol is another sugar alcohol – it occurs naturally in birch trees. If you’ve ever had birch beer or birch sap (a favorite up north) you’ve had xylitol. We use just enough for its contribution to the sweetness profile and to garner some of the health benefits of xylitol. We’ve also noticed that foods sweetened with Kidsweet tend to last longer than unsweetened foods or foods sweetened with sugar. We believe this is because of the anti-microbial properties of xylitol (bacteria think it’s sugar, then use up their enzymes trying to process it); we’ll be conducting our own scientific study soon to see if this is indeed the case. Xylitol-containing chewing gum has been found in an archaeological dig in Sweden, dating back to 7000BC!</p><p>Stevia extract – we use a very specific, high-purity extract of stevia, which lends Kidsweet its own type of sweetness, that balances out the sugar alcohols. The preferred sweetener molecule in stevia is a diterpene molecule. Diterpenes are known to have antimicrobial and antiinflammatory effects. They are in the terpenoid class of molecules, which include the flavors of cinnamon and ginger and the red color in tomatoes. The Guarani people of South America may have discovered the Stevia plant over 1500 years ago, naming it the “sweet herb”.</p><p>Monk fruit extract – perhaps the most unusual ingredient in Kidsweet, this Asian fruit has a unique kind of sweetness that is essential to the Kidsweet flavor profile. We searched long and hard for just the right monk fruit extract and use one of extremely high purity for a premium taste experience without bitter aftertones. Monk fruit was first cultivated by Chinese monks over 700 years ago.</p>
